Sultan of Oman Qaboos bin Said Al Said dies aged 79 after half a century in power

The Sultan of Oman, Qaboos bin Said al-Said has passed away aged 79, Omani state media said early on Saturday. Qaboos had ruled the Gulf Arab state since he took over in a bloodless coup in 1970.
